Background of the Study
Poverty alleviation programs are essential for reducing poverty levels and improving the standard of living in developing regions. In Nigeria, local governments such as Sardauna LGA play a significant role in implementing these programs. However, the success of these programs is often hindered by inadequate funding. Taxation provides a critical avenue for generating revenue that can be allocated to poverty alleviation initiatives.
Despite the importance of tax revenue in supporting poverty reduction programs, its direct impact is often under-explored in local government settings. In Sardauna LGA, tax revenue has the potential to fund social services, healthcare, education, and infrastructure—critical components of poverty alleviation. This study examines how taxation influences the success of poverty alleviation programs in Sardauna LGA, focusing on the relationship between tax revenue generation and program effectiveness.
Statement of the Problem
Poverty alleviation programs in Sardauna LGA face significant funding challenges due to limited tax revenue collection. While taxation can provide the financial resources needed for these programs, there is limited research on how tax revenue impacts the success of poverty alleviation initiatives in the LGA. This study seeks to fill this gap by investigating the role of tax revenue in supporting poverty reduction efforts in Sardauna LGA.
